SAM BALDERAS RETIRES AS WINEMAKER FOR TALBOTT VINEYARDS
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. – March 31, 2008 – Effective April 1, 2008, Sam Balderas will be retiring as the winemaker for Talbott Vineyards after 23 years with the winery. Founder Robb Talbott has been overseeing the transition and the new winemaker selection process, and will name Balderas’ successor in the near future.
“Talbott’s success is a reflection of the depth and character of our estate vineyards,” says Robb Talbott. “For a quarter century, we have strived to craft benchmark Monterey County wines that embody the terroir of our vineyards. To realize this, we use the classic winemaking techniques to achieve the rich, Burgundian style that first inspired my love of wine. Working with our team, our new winemaker will continue this tradition of excellence, while producing wines in our signature style. We are grateful for Sam’s years of service and outstanding winemaking, and we wish him all the best.”
Talbott Vineyards was founded in 1982, when Robb Talbott personally planted his mountainous Diamond T Vineyard to the Corton-Charlemagne clone of Chardonnay. Today, Talbott Vineyards’ acclaimed estate program encompasses two of Monterey County’s most esteemed winegrowing areas: the Santa Lucia Highlands, where Talbott’s Sleepy Hollow and River Road vineyards are located, and the Carmel Valley, which is home to Diamond T. From this world-class palette of estate fruit, Talbott Vineyards crafts Burgundian-inspired Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs that have earned a reputation for elegance and aging potential. Talbott Vineyards produces these wines under four labels: Talbott, Logan, Case, and Kali Hart.
