Sleepy Hollow Vineyard®

SLEEPY HOLLOW VINEYARD® - A AND B located in the stunning Santa Lucia Highlands, 13 miles south of Monterey Bay, this 450-acre hillside vineyard is divided into two separate vineyard parcels, Sleepy Hollow A and Sleepy Hollow B. Both parcels are planted on Arroyo Seco gravelly loam soil, which allows excellent root penetration, enabling the vines to pick up subsoil minerals that increase flavor complexity. These sparse,well-drained soils also reduce yields, creating rich, concentrated flavors in the grapes. The vineyard’s predominately east-northeast exposure, combined with its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, contribute to a cool growing site with moderate vineyard temperatures. This results in a long growing season, giving the grapes the luxury of more hang time to develop greater varietal character. Grapes from Sleepy Hollow A contribute to Talbott Sleepy Hollow, Case Pinot Noir, and Logan Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. In what has proven to be a great study in cool climate winegrowing, Sleepy Hollow A also contains 12 acres of newer Syrah plantings. Grapes from Sleepy Hollow B are designated for Talbott and Logan wines. Chardonnay grapes are Wente clone and Pinot Noir grapes are Martini clone. Both varietals are 32 to 35-year-old plantings on their own roots.
