Talbott Chardonnay, Cuvée Audrey
Named after Robb’s mother Audrey Talbott, Cuvée Audrey is an unfined and unfiltered tête de cuvée selection of the very best lots from Talbott’s Diamond T Vineyard. Treated with the same measure of exacting care given to the great grand cru vineyards, this tightly spaced, 17-acre vineyard grows in almost soil-free chalky shale on a 1,200-foot mountaintop. Due to the harsh growing conditions of this small, high-altitude site, Cuvée Audrey is an extremely limited release. The result is an incredibly powerful, yet refined, complex wine, revealing concentrated flavors of tropical pineapple, tart green apple, crème brûlée, vanilla bean, hazelnut, and minerals. Meticulously cared for, Diamond T consistently provides us with a wine that demonstrates elegance, finesse, and mineral characteristics, the signatures of the vineyard’s Corton-Charlemagne clone plantings and unique terroir.

“Gigantic in volume, even for Talbott, whose Chardonnays always are big. Just
explodes with caramel and pineapple brûlée, peach custard, vanilla cream,
cinnamon-buttered toast and honey. Almost a food group in itself, this massive wine
easily merits its high score, but it will swamp most foods an ordinary Chardonnay
would go with. Lobster with butter is one solution, or drink as a cocktail on its own.”
